We Adopted a Sloth!

As a promise to our followers, we said we would “virtually” adopt a sloth from The Sloth Institute after our Kickstarter. This comes out-of-pocket, as Kickstarter does not allow funds to be used for charitable expenses. However, this is one expense that we were ready to throw our dollars at! How amazing is it to know that you are a part of helping a little sloth get the help it needs to recover?!

So, we would like you to meet Elsa! Elsa, an older baby 3 fingered sloth, was appropriately named because when she was rescued, The Sloth Institute found her two legs were ‘frozen’. She was found dangling from a vine in the forest clinging only by her arms. Her back legs weren’t working properly yet weren’t fully paralyzed. This condition is known as paresis. They aren’t exactly sure how she was injured (possibly a fall) but x-rays show no structural damage to her spine, indicating it is due to muscle damage instead.

Since her arrival, Elsa has made great strides. She was once extremely painful and aggressive because of her fear and pain. After 2 weeks of treatment, she is no longer in pain and is able to move her feet and legs more. TSI just started acupuncture therapy to aid in her recovery more quickly. She still has a long way to go and needs to get bigger before she can be released, but they are pleased with her progress thus far and believe in her!

In addition, we had a livestream with Elsa and a volunteer at The Sloth Institute to see Elsa in action. You can view the replay here

We hope this will help with Elsa's treatments and get her back into the wild!
